Yugra - a tale continues

Khanty-Mansijsk city is situated on seven main hills near the confluence of the ob and the Irtysh Rivers, in exceptional landscape where relict kinds of cedar, fir and other trees have been preserved. Before you enjoy the nature, walk through the city with an excursion “Yugra’s museum ring” (V. A. Igoshev museum, Geology, Oil and Gas museum, museum of nature and Man). You can visit an open-air museum “Torum Maa”. Tourists can learn a lot of interesting facts about culture, traditions and lifestyle of the Khants and Mansi in a museum “On the land of the Ob River’s Yugry”

Severe Siberian climate has created absolutely exceptional culture. Beautiful and mysterious pictures are exhibited in a picture gallery. They depict the image of Yugra, where generations listened to legends and stories in winter evenings. Interestingly, the Khantys used to say “if my tale continues” meaning “if I am alive”.

Yugra is worlds known for rich oil and gas resources. Besides oil, places gold and talus quartz are produced in the region.  Brown and bituminous coal have been found. Iron, copper, zinc, lead, and columbium deposits have been found.

Summer and winter rest

Yugra is a unique nature complex, a region of forests, rivers, lakes and bogs that are wonderfully beautiful any season. Thousands of rivers and lakes, numerous berrylike bogs and taiga forests are perfect for fishing-, hunting- and wild plants gathering-loving tourists. There is no other region in the world so full of fish, animals and birds.

By the way, yager services are well developed here. You can settle in a hunting box, license your hunting. Hunting equipment you will get then and there.

Winter climate is great either. Thick and sustainable sown cover, perfect relief, hills, valleys and well-developed infrastructure provide for the region’s development and extreme sport-loving tourists attraction: mountain ski, kiting and snowboarding.

There are two mountain ski resorts in the capital of Yugra: “Khvoyny Urman” and “Kedrovy”. Snowboarding contests take place in Khanty-Mansijsk city. You can set on a river trip on a comfy ship or visit countryside and enjoy snow-covered mountains when it is heat outside, you can walk through a nature park “Samarovsky Chugas” – an exceptional forest, geological and archeological object, in summer.

The locals advice usually another interesting place to visit – an ecological and educational centre “Shapshinskoe urochishche”, where you can get familiar to some horses – Sleeping Beauty, Ogonyok, Nemo; an elk-cub Manyasha, and foxes. Riding a horse in winter forest with jingle bells ringing and tea-party over a fire is nothing-to-compare-to.

Two related nations

Native minorities of the Khanty-Mansijsk AD – Yugra: the Khanty and the Mansi are two related nations. Industrial development of the territory sparked off an increase in entrants. Native minorities form just two per cent of the region’s population.

There are numerous ethnographical centres and museums, national parks in the region to get familiar you with exceptional and exotic lifestyle of the natives of the Ob river region and Yugra. Khanty and Mansi ancient culture is very interesting; you can get familiar with it not only while communicating with the locals in villages and settlements but also in ethnographical museums.

There are several most interesting ecological and ethnographical museums in the region, where more than 400 monuments of architecture and culture are located. The AD ttracts business people as well. Russian and international forums, conferences and exhibitions take place here often: “ Energosnabzhenie (Energy Supply)”, “Wood. Woodwork. Cottage”. “Surgut. Oil and Gas” and other. An annual specialized tourist exhibition “YugraTur” has been taken place since 2001.

Event tourism

A television festival “Golden Tambourine”, an international film festival “Spirit of fire”, a theatre festival “Chaika (Seagull)”, an international music festival “Yugra” have become traditional. The region is an attractive place for holding significant All-Russian and international contests. International Biathlon competitions have taken place since 1997.

There is probably no other region in Russia where tourism has been so thoroughly and quickly developed. Moreover, national monuments perfectly fit environment making landscape unusual.

More than 100 hotels of a three- and four-stars hotels’ level provide comfortable accommodation for tourists, businessmen, sportsmen.

The quality and equipment of highways, railways, and waterways let you visit Yugra any season. All main means of transportation are actively used in the region.

There are 11 airports in the region, which are newly equipped and not worse than European ones. Passenger flight connection is carried out between Russian and the CIS countries. The airports of Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, Khanty-Mansijsk and Raduzhny city carry out custom and border control and play an international role.
